Program journey
-
Sewing is both a practical skill and a creative craft. Whether you want to mend clothing, alter ready-to-wear, or make garments from scratch, understanding basic tools, stitches and techniques gets you started with confidence.
-
Project Work in sewing introduces young students to practical skills and creative problem-solving. They learn basic hand stitches and machine sewing safety, measure and cut fabric, follow simple patterns, and assemble a finished item such as a cushion, tote bag, or soft toy. Emphasis is on planning the project, choosing materials, practising techniques, and reflecting on improvements. The module builds fine motor skills, patience, and confidence while encouraging personal expression through colour, texture and design choices.
-
In the sewing studio, young students come together to design, cut and stitch collaborative projects that blend individual ideas into unified pieces. They practise pattern-making, share tools and troubleshoot techniques while rotating roles—designer, cutter, stitcher, finisher—so everyone learns every step. Projects range from patchwork quilts and community banners to coordinated garment collections and accessory swaps. Through peer feedback sessions and group critiques, students refine craftsmanship, problem-solving and communication skills. The finished works celebrate creativity, teamwork and the confidence that comes from building something larger than any one maker.
-
On the final week of the camp, student in the semester will present their vibrant final-week portfolio presentation. Each student will be showcases a curated collection of garments and textile experiments that trace their progress in technique, creativity and design thinking. Pieces range from neatly constructed basics demonstrating mastery of seams and finishing to bold, imaginative projects that explore pattern drafting, colour play and upcycling.
Portfolio Review: A final presentation showcasing completed projects.
Peer Feedback: Engaging in constructive critiques with fellow participants.
Instructor Assessment: Personalized feedback throughout the program.
