Program details

Learn the fundamentals of fashion draping and discover how to transform fabric into beautifully structured garments directly on the dress form. This hands-on beginner course introduces you to essential draping principles, including balance, symmetry, grainlines, shaping, and proportion.

Throughout the 8-week program, you will work through a series of practical projects designed to build your confidence and technical skills. You will learn how to interpret a two-dimensional fashion illustration and translate it into a three-dimensional garment, while developing an understanding of how fabric behaves and responds to the body.

From creating basic draping blocks and exploring different fabric grainlines to constructing tops, skirts, and a bias-cut tunic dress, each project builds toward a final understanding of the draping process.

By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently drape on the dress form, evaluate and refine your designs, and transfer your finished drapes into paper patterns ready for garment development.
